Baby Chesed

There is another Chesed in the world! My friends Kelly & Josh Vess, who used to live down here and went to Shoreline always told me how much they loved my name. Well, I guess they liked it alot because they gave it to their new baby girl Chesed Mae Vess. Her older siblings have cool names too - Silas & Eden. I just think it's neat!

Weekend Report and Article on Alys Beach

Wow! I need a vacation after last weekend! It was tons of fun! Friday after a long day of miserable rain and NOTHING to make the day go by faster & a workout, I nursed a little migraine. I caught it soon enough to be fine in an hour or so, but I missed the Redneck Riviera party. Instead I met up with Chad and some other kids at Red Bar. I ended up just sitting in the back room and eating with some of the wait staff - two twin brothers from Costa Rica - very nice guys. It's never bad to have friends who work there, just because once the season hits it's almost impossible to get a table!

Saturday morning Chad called me at 6:30 to make sure I was coming to surf. Trust me, it was no easy sell for him to get me out of bed and into the cold cold water. But once I was out there sitting on the board watching the sunrise, all was well in my world. There is just nothing like it! About a dozen other guys (no girls) were crazy enough to be out there that early for the waves. They were about head high and clean. I got up on my knees for a few rides and I got thrashed many many times. According to Chad that is a very good thing, because it means I'm trying and not chickening out.

I got home to shower and freshen up at 11. Then on to the grocery store to shop for all the goodies, drinks, and firewood. I was out on the beach near 12:30 and got some good reading in before everyone started showing up. We had a good group of about 24 throughout the course of the day. We played ultimate frisbee & threw the football, relaxed, etc. The group was a hodgepodge of people I know from church, Off 98, South Walton Young Professionals, the gym... fun fun! Our bonfire was fun and it was a good thing we had it for warmth because it was really cold once the sun went down. The stars out here are amazing! They were twinkling so nicely until the moon came up and stole the show. The light from the moon lit up the white sand and the surf - it was breathtaking! We had hot dogs, s'mores, music from Paul playing the guitar and Chad on the jimbay (sp?). At about 11:30 I "hit a wall" and headed home leaving everyone else around the fire.

Sunday I went to the early service, which was one of the best days at church that I can remember. Pastor E was talking about "Paying it Forward" and making a differnce in action, not just talk. As a way to get the ball rolling they passed the offering buckets a second time and instead of putting money in, every person in the congregation took an envelope out. Each envelope had money in it, anywhere from $5-$400. The instruction was to make a difference somehow by pooling it together with others or just giving it away to someone in need. I was moved to tears and when I was greeting for the second service I was able to tell people that they were in for a really moving message.

After having lunch with my friends Kelly & Warren at Panera I headed back out to Seaside to meet up with Kelly, Summer, Hilary, and Tether to run 10 miles for our 1/2 Marathon training. It was a long long painful run, but now I know I will be more prepared for the race than I was last year. When we got back we sat up on the deck at Bud & Alley's with some cold drinks and fresh tuna dip, laughing enjoying the view, and goofing off for about an hour. There was a lady there who is on the show "The Real Housewives of Orange County" - not that it will mean anything to any of you, but it was our celebrity sighting of the day. Apparently she owns the "San Tropez" clothing store chain.

I got home, ate a healthy dinner, took a bath, and watched the Academy Awards before crawling into bed and sleeping like a rock!

I'm sure ya'll didn't really care for the play-by-play of my weekend, but it was busy and it was fun and it's all I've got to write about.

Prayer Note: Please pray for Micah Stout (yes, my old boyfriend). He has been diagnosed with cancer and they are finding out what options he has now for his treatment. He has 5 children and a wife who completely depend on him, so this will be a very difficult time for the whole Stout family.

The Weekend Ahead

One of the great things about being single, free, and independent is that I can make plans however I want to for the weekends. I've sufficiently stacked my social calendar for tonight, Saturday, and Sunday.

So, here's the plan: After work I'm going straight to Grayton Fitness, because before I can have any fun I have to train. There is one particular "yummy" guy at my gym who keeps me motivated to push a little harder. We haven't spoken yet, but I'm sure he's just working up the courage to come over and interrupt my rigorous workout ;) At least that's what I tell myself. From there I will go home to shower and get dressed up like a redneck - I might need some pointers from some of you - for a Redneck Riviera themed birthday party at Point Washington. I'll have to pack something a little more upperclass to change into and meet up with some girl friends later. I will possibly stay at the Palms in Destin with some other friends who got a suite for the weekend.

Chad has informed me that there will be surf tomorrow, so it will be an early morning breakfast at Amavida Coffee Shop then out to the waves. This is good news because I bought a wet suit a while back and have only used it a couple times. I'm looking forward to the "cost-per-use" going down.
Then at 2 my friend Andrew and I have organized a beach get together at Grayton for his birthday. I invited about 70 people, so I'm interested to see who shows up with such short notice. We'll spend the day playing and relaxing and then when the sun goes down we have plans for a beach bonfire. There will be another party down there having a bonfire. It's an engagement party for Alys, who I work with, so I'll be mingling between the two groups. When we run out of firewood, we'll head over to Red Bar (don't worry. it's more of a restaurant than a bar) to hang out and listen to the band.

Happy Birthday, Andrew!

Sunday after early service, a group of us are going to brunch back at the Red Bar, where Dread Clampit will be playing some tunes. Yummm! Eggs Benedict there is the best! Once our food has settled we've determined that we will run 10 miles in preparation for the Seaside Half Marathon next weekend. The finish line is my house, where we will probably just crash and watch tv for the remainder of the day. I'm tired just thinking about it!

On a different note: Please pray for Adam. He's Jeremy Touchstone's good friend. Pray that he will encounter God during this time and give his life to Him. Also, please pray for my friend Geoff. He's a flight surgeon for the Air Force Special Ops and he will be deploying this weekend to Iraq. His job is less than safe, so we'll all be glad to have him back in 90 days !

Eagle Crash

I felt so out of the loop this morning when I read the news this morning. Reading about the F15s that crashed over the Gulf yesterday brought tears to my eyes and I began to worry about the guys I know in the 33rd, hoping that it wasn't any of them. After several attempts to text, call, and email, I finally got in touch with someone in the squadron who could at least give me information on who it wasn't. Though relieved I am still very sad. There were two guys, one announced dead on arrival and the other released from the hospital. Please be in prayer for the survivor and for the rest of the service men and women in the 33rd.

Happy Birthday, Ma!
You make 70 look good :)!
Now who's the favorite?! Hee hee...

Becaue my life is sooooooo interesting...

... I have nothing worth blogging, but I thought I'd be a family lemming and get one too. Here it is!

Soon I will be posting all sorts of crazy stories about adventure and romance and excitement, some of them true and some from my own imagination. Read at your own risk!

Quick updates:

* I'm taking the first test next week for my Real Estate license. I have to make a 70+ to pass and then I'll go to P-cola to take the State Exam and make 75+. Pray that I find some study skills, because I think I left the ones I had in Europe somewhere after graduation.

* I love living alone! (no offense to the fam) Shara has named my house "Sweet Serenity" (everyone names their house in this area). Chara and Shara both come spend the night on the weekends as often as possible, and McKinley has too. The stars are much brighter in South Walton and I can often hear the surf from my porch. I accidentally bought a TV on Ebay, so I'm hoping that it's in good shape when I get it, which should be today.

* I'm joining a group out here called "South Walton Young Professionals". Sunday will be my first getogether with them, so that should be fun.

* I have three more weeks to train for the Seaside 1/2 Marathon. I'm not feelin' it yet, but I rarely do until I cross the finish line.

That's all I've got so far. Stay tuned...
